United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, in partnership with Renewvia Solar Nigeria Limited and Norwegian-based investment arm Empower New Energy, has announced the commissioning of solar-plus-storage systems across 25 UBA branches in five Nigerian states. The initiative, unveiled at the UBA Oba Akran 2 branch in Lagos, was officially launched by Norway’s Ambassador to Nigeria, underscoring the growing Nordic-African collaboration in clean energy.
Under a 10-year Power-as-a-Service (PaaS) agreement, the project will deliver approximately 152,000 kWh of clean energy monthly in its first phase. The full rollout aims to cover 50 UBA locations across 18 states, with a target of 3 MWp of solar capacity and 7 MWh of energy storage.
The project is expected to reduce UBA’s carbon footprint by more than 89,000 kg of CO₂ each month, while enhancing operational resilience, lowering energy costs and demonstrating how commercial infrastructure can adopt advanced clean-energy solutions.
‘This is a major milestone in our mission to deliver reliable, clean energy to commercial clients across Nigeria’, said the MD of Renewvia Solar Nigeria, Adebowale Dosunmu.
The initiative aligns with UBA’s chairperson’s emphasis on transforming Africa through investment and partnership — not aid — and highlights the role of maturing clean-energy ecosystems in Nigeria’s commercial and sustainability strategy.
