Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan Pushes Digital Transformation to Boost Investor Confidence in Nigeria’s Upstream Sector

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has announced a bold push toward enhanced transparency and digital transformation, led by Commission Chief Executive Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan.

Speaking during a visit by the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) to the NUPRC’s headquarters in Abuja, Eyesan revealed plans to make internal communications fully electronic within a 60-day timeframe. Once complete, the Commission’s operations — from correspondence to internal interactions — will be digitised with the aim of eliminating paper trails, improving speed, and enabling better traceability of processes across the regulatory agency.

“All our transmissions will be electronic, which also means speed is assured,” Eyesan said, underscoring the importance of digital systems in enhancing regulatory efficiency and accountability. Enhanced digital processes are also expected to support royalty enforcement and compliance monitoring, strengthening upstream governance.

The initiative aligns with broader industry calls for increased transparency and investor confidence, particularly as the Commission works in close collaboration with NEITI and other stakeholders in ongoing regulatory reforms and the 2025 licensing round. NEITI’s leadership stressed that deeper collaboration and data sharing will further improve transparency and bolster investor trust in Nigeria’s upstream sector.
