Nigerians Turn to Chinese Air Conditioners as Harmattan Heat Persists

As Nigeria enters the harmattan season, soaring temperatures and unreliable power supply are driving a surge in demand for energy-efficient air conditioners. From homes to offices and roadside shops, affordable and durable cooling units are increasingly sought after.

Chinese brands have emerged as favorites, with names like Midea, Hisense, Gree, TCL, Chigo, and Kenstar dominating the market due to their balance of price, performance, and after-sales support. In particular, TCL air conditioners have gained traction for their fast cooling, digital displays, and eco-friendly features.

Officially distributed in Nigeria by SIMS Nigeria Limited and available through retailers like Electromart and Jamara Home Store, TCL’s models range from the VoxIN to the UNITARY Series, priced between ₦516,000 and ₦1.9 million. While popular for energy efficiency and smart features, some users have criticized TCL units for occasional connectivity issues and high costs.
