NCDMB Launches Nationwide Training to Equip Over 10,000 Nigerians for Oil & Gas Careers

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has announced a major human-capital initiative aimed at training more than 10,000 Nigerians in in-demand technical and professional skills for the oil and gas sector.

The programme, named the “Oil and Gas Field Readiness Training Programme,” is designed to bridge critical skill gaps identified in the industry, particularly in applications for expatriate quotas by operators. The scheme will roll out over a two- to three-year period.

Training Focus & Eligibility

Selected technical areas include:

  • Subsea engineering (wellheads, flowlines, umbilicals)
  • Underwater welding
  • Control and automation engineering (rig operations, well controls)
  • Helicopter piloting and seafaring (vessel mechanics/electricians)
  • Production and maintenance engineering
  • QA/QC engineering (NDT Levels 1–3)
  • Geoscience engineering (seismic, geophysics, wellsite geology)
  • Digitalisation (AI, ML, IoT, Big Data, Drones)

Youth aged under 35 with OND, HND or BSc in relevant STEM fields are eligible. Applicants must register via the NOGIC Joint Qualification System (JQS).

Strategic Impact

According to NCDMB, the programme aligns with Section 10(1)(b) of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act (2010), which gives Nigerians priority for training and employment in industry projects.

By building local capability, the board aims to support Nigeria’s increased oil and gas project activity, reduce reliance on expatriate labour, and deepen value-chain participation by locals.
